Grandma's Recipe Box: Coffee Bars and Coffee Glaze

Since I never liked the taste of coffee (although I enjoy the brewing smell),  I never tasted these.  If you love coffee - coffee - coffee as so many people do, then you may want to try these.

Coffee Bars (easy and good recipe)

Ingredients:

1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2/3 cup strong coffee
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup Crisco
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  1. Combine raisins, coffee, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Cream together sugar and Crisco.  Add eggs one at a time beating well.
  3. Sift together flour, soda, and baking powder.  Stir into egg mixture alternately with coffee mixture.
  4. Spread batter into oiled and floured 10"x 16" x 1" jelly roll pan.
  5. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  6. While still warm, spread on a coffee glaze (below).
  7. Cut into bars when cool.

Coffee Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Adding just enough strong coffee to powdered sugar to make a thin frosting.
